The case system
In Romanian there are 5 cases: the Nominative, which is a subject case expressing the subject in a sentence, the Accusative which is a direct object case, usually responding to the question whom or what. Under the Accusative various other grammatical items appear, such as the adverbs expressing modality, location and time. The next case is the Genitive case that expresses possession ( whose). The 4th case is the Dative case that expresses the indirect object in a sentence (to whom). The last case is the Vocative case that is a case of direct address.
